Many of the company's engineering team members pioneered the first length of solid dielectric cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulated cable which was produced and installed in Canada in 1963 for a 600V application.

In May of 1990, another milestone was reached. Unite Wire & Cable successfully completed a turn-key project for Ontario Hydro, Toronto, Leaside T.S. by supplying and installing the FIRST online 230kV solid dielectric (XLPE) insulated power cable in North America.
